The Dream of a Small Star

A Heaven where humans and robots are inseparable – that is the final wish of Yumemi Hoshino (also known as Reverie Planetarian in the English version), a robot designed to assist in the showing of a planetarium inside a department store in a world that has left them.

[ Planetrian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume; planetarian ~ちいさなほしのゆめ~; Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet ] is one of Visual Art’s/Keys visual novels produced in 2004. Unlike the other visual novels, this one is more static in a sense that you do not choose any options at all – so it is a straight-forward storytelling. The story begins when a middle-aged man enters a building in hopes of evading the war machines that are all over the place. Inside, he meets Yumemi/Reverie who offers him to show a special commemorative planetarium projection from a machine known as Miss Jena, for being the 2,500,000th customer (even though he’s not exactly the 2,500,000th). The contrasting attitude of the two makes the reading worthwhile – an energetic, playful, caring, and ever-so-curious Reverie just wanted their customer, only known as “the junker”, to feel comfortable – but he only feels terribly annoyed by her ‘bothersome’ characteristics.

The pace of the whole story feels a bit slow than any of Key’s first novels, so it somehow feels kinda boring at first. But as it reaches the end, it picks up pace, especially when they exit the building to enter the real world that Reverie has been deprived of. From hereon, the story reveals itself to a more serious tone that reaches to a very dramatic ending. One that is completely expected – but I have failed to do so. I’m almost usually very predictive in endings, but somehow, I didn’t see this coming – or maybe, it is that I never wanted it to end ‘that’ way. Having the whole story between the two of them alone and with no other scenario but inside and outside the building, the plot revolves around the evolution of the junker’s feelings and relationship toward Reverie – and that’s what makes it hard to accept how it all ended. In any case, the story really feels Key-like and is definitely a must-read for all fans.

The music is, of course, very appropriate to the story and very pleasing to the ears – adding to the already well-presented mood this visual novel has.

Although the male protagonist does not speak, the emotions are ‘well-versed’ in Reverie. The graphics are ok, and the CG are good too, albeit the very limited occurrences.

Overall, Visual Art’s/Key never fails to produce a top-notch visual novel! This heart-warming story is not to be missed by Kanon/Air/Clannad fans and everything that falls within the same genre. I will definitely re-read it sometime soon. Now, my only wish is for an OVA!!

OMG Key!

How can Key keep on producing such quality anime ever since Air? Anyway, Angel Beats has got to be the most intriguing show I have ever watched. The storyline is so unique, it’s almost on the borderline of reality and imagination. Only a genius can think of such plot and flow. It’s just amazing. I’ve really got to watch more of Key‘s works. I’m hearing Rewrite will soon get an anime adaptation, yes?

The OP (My Soul, Your Beats) is just great (sung by the wonderful Lia), but the ED is game-changer! I’ve been attached to the lyrics and melody and tempo of this song since I started watching it. You know how I get so engrossed with music in OPs and EDs. (Iwasawa’s song My Song is wonderful too. What vocals!)

Anyway, it’s a must watch for all Air, Kanon, and Clannad fans. It’s just the anime with the right twist in every step of the way!

Philippine Epic-ness

I’ll just throw out ideas out of nothing here.

Can he change the Philippines for the good?

So I guess the fate of the Philippines for the next 6(?) years have been decided already – a landslide victory for Senator Noynoy Aquino, much to the delight of many, but much to the demise of the most. But oh man, Joseph Estrada placed second! What are the Filipinos thinking?! We’ll be putting ourselves to shame putting a president back to position after ousting and putting him to jail. Thank God it comes down to the lesser evil. Anyway, no more politics now.

Anyway, the main reason for this post is Clannad. I can’t believe ABC5, a local tv channel here in the Philippines, actually acquired Clannad and had it Tagalog-dubbed. I actually shouted because of amazement for this epic-ness! Really, Channel 5 knows how to pick anime, knowing that they have also acquired Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Azumanga Daioh, Special A, Shakugan no Shana, and more. As expected however, the VA is sub-par. No real emotions, loose translations, and some are just downright annoying voice quality. However, I’m not complaining about spreading the love. Clannad ❤

And now, I’ve been starving to look for another anime with quality as that of Clannad – truly a masterpiece. 🙂

End of Fight, Almost

Wow, it’s already 2010! And you know what that means (at least I do). I’d be entering 5th year college next semester. Yipee! But before that, I have to undergo a not-so-serious on-the-job training in a company very near to our school. Plus, the bosses there are also my teachers, so it should be a breeze (I hope). That’s the good thing. The sad thing is that some of my friends have graduated already, leaving the comforts of Katipunan just like that. It was lightning fast! It only seemed like the other day when we all first met, but now, we had to bid farewell to each other. Hopefully though, we may see each other often in the near future (please?). Haha.

On this OJT, I have to complete 200 hours of work and the nature of my work is Android apps programming. I have zero knowledge on this one so bless me God so that I can understand it in a jiffy. Next sem, I will have a major elective (3 units) and a free elective (3 units). I wonder what I will be getting for my free elective. I wanted either Japanese Language 1 or Basic Rudiments of Music since these are my interests, but I’m thinking career-wise as well, having Java as a possible choice (since it’s a must need in companies XD). So I hope I can decide before the end of May. For now, I will be focusing on the tasks that I will be given for the next 5 weeks or so. Ganbatte!

Music <-> Life

As much as I would like to integrate my music into my life, it’s very hard for me to do it. For one, I’m seriously lacking time and, believe it or not, motivation. Seriously, I just want to lie down in bed most of the time and doze off to neverland. Gawd, I need an enlightenment. But for now, I am truly enjoying Jyukai, especially the new album which has just arrived 3 weeks ago. My recent favorite has got to be Omoide ni Naru Mae ni for its unbelievable theme. Every time I listen to it, I felt like writing and various images come to mind in an instant. Again, I will seek help from Keiri to translate the lyrics of the song. As soon as she finishes it, I will upload it here naturally. 🙂

It has also been a while since I’ve played something from my keyboard, and I really miss it. :[ I want to play Chiisana te no Hira since I also miss Clannad hahaha. I hope to accomplish this sometime this summer. Also, I’m looking for kind-hearted transcribers for piano/keyboard of a song, so if you are one of them, please drop by a comment. It will be highly appreciated. I will do anything to my capabilities to give something in return if you have decided to transcribe it for me. Thank you in advance. 🙂
